Does anyone have any feedback on how this boot is for steep ice/ mixed climbing? Thanks
The G5 is Sportiva's replacement for the Batura, which has been a extremely well regarded boot for steep ice and mixed. I have never owned or used the Batura or G5, but plenty of elite climbers, hardmen, and ordinary weekend warriors do. Colin Haley, Steve House, etc.
They're great for steep ice and mixed. Been climbing steep stuff in them all winter. As with any boot, it's all about fit. They're much higher volume in the forefoot than the Nepal/Batura... Great for letting my toes keep circulation, tougher to lock down the fit for my weirdly shaped feet. The BOA/Strap combo is great though. Easy to loosen at belays and then crank down for climbing.
