Waterfall Wednesday w/ ferlandpat brought us back to Beaver Brook Falls. After climbing here in December and not being able to get to the right side, we wanted to come back and try it again. Pat lead up the middle, and in spots the ice was very thin (video). Once at the top, we took turns lowering down, and climbing the right side. We each did a lap, then we rappelled down the right side to the base, and I lead up the right side.
We have come to the conclusion that the Otter is our spirit animal for climbing this year, since we have seen Otter tracks at almost every waterfall we have climbed.
Once again, we had a mix of ice conditions, but the weather was perfect, and we had a great day.

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday’s blue skies were replaced today by…this.
And what a difference three days make!
But the crew was solid, prepared, and understanding of the fact that the alpine dishes out what it chooses.
Moreover, they were solid in their systems and ably put together multi-pitch techniques.
Get ready Greenland, this crew is now ready for it dishes out during their future adventures there.

Back out with seymourmountains
after a bit of a hiatus, as it’s been a full-tilt winter. But glad we were able to sneak it in, as it was satisfying to see the steady progress he’s been making.
Though the prospects in North Conway seemed thin, we were able to get on Goofers (thin and delaminated at the top—not recommended if you’re expecting WI3) and a refreshed and un-picked-out Black Pudding Gully that felt beyond the grade to me—but maybe that’s just because unpicked-out columns are my nemesis!
Whatever the case, Matt styled them both. Though it hasn’t been the strongest ice season, it’s good to see climbers getting stronger.

This triad occurred to me yesterday while belaying Bogden up P3 of La Loutre in the spectacular Hautes Gorges Parc Nationale, Quebec.
Climber: The people you choose to climb with, share emotions with, share decisions with.
Climbing: The experience of the route, the beauty of the line, the joy of the movement.
Climb: The goal, the satisfaction of completing what is commonly defined as the completed route.

Another great day hanging from an icicle w/ ferlandpat
I took the lead, and set up the anchor for some top roping. We each did a few laps, each time taking a little different line. Pat lead up another line further to the left, but I didn't get any pics or video.
Weather was excellent, and the ice was in very good condition. Topping out was a little sketchy, as the turf is not frozen everywhere, and we had to improvise to top out by using trees and branches.
