Climbing the loose shale of Pont-Rouge

The rock at Pont-Rouge can be unfamiliar to most climbers. It is soft, loose, solid and dirty rock. At the end of the day you can tell who was climbing the rock by the rock dust they display on their Gore-Tex. I remember we were coaching Mark Synnott telling him that at times you need to swing into the rock to get a good placement. This is not granite. Fortunately there are some good solid sections that allow for solid bolts. The over hanging nature of the walls make for exciting and pumpy climbing
