Description: Buy it at the Mountaineer.

We developed this generation of ice tool specifically for technical climbing on all of the world’s mountains. The deep clearance curve cheats past radical terrain barriers without levering the pick out of the ice. The shaft is covered with a new non-slip grip material, handle made of pure silicone. An adjustable “trigger” distributes weight onto the strongest finger and the ergonomic “Horn” supports the hand, protecting it from violent blows against the wall. It also is a safe and balanced support for the ice axe against ice. The Horn can be detached when a completely free spike is requested. The first tool tested on the new winter 2003/2004 game: the “total dry”. The Taa-k-oon is a must have for “leashless” climbing.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): THE leashless ICE tool
Cons: the horn is a little tight

first off...the cascade,is THE best ice pick on the market!!(it dry tools fine so far)(grivel has always made the best NE ice pick like the evolutoin!)
this is THE best leashless tool for real ice climbing meaning ALL grades of ice and it'll mix it up just fine
as far as the weight its all where you want it up high. the mass helps drive the pick in. also very damp a little like the cobra w its carbon fifer shaft. so to me it not an issue (weight wise)
i moved the trigger up a little, rather than having it for your index finger, i made it so you can match on same tool, great for shaking it out! thats what leashless is all about... no?
the horn may be a little tight for bigger hands or bulky gloves
also you can put a leash on it i'm futzzn around w/ a BD android that may be a good option on looong steeep ice for my little weak arms!!
i dumped my vipers for this tool...!!

Positive aspects of the product (pros):
Cons:

Everything Viper said about the tool is accurate. I tried the Vipers, Fusion, Quarks, Trangos and found this to be the best. The only exception is order it with the Cascade pick if you are using mainly for ice. The Mixte sinks great but is a bitch to remove. Haven't used leashes on them, so no advice. They just perform great, match well, hook great, swing sweet.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Balance, grip comfort, clearance.
Cons: Pinky horn too tight

Great replacement for my broken machines. Loved them from the first swing. I did have to deal with the tight pinky rest hook problem. My fat fingers in gloves didn't fit well in the tight hook. Nothing a hacksaw couldn't solve in 2 minutes. Still has plenty of support. I have removed the index finger hook and added leashes for big fat ice, but will carry the hooks and an allen wrench for quick conversions to leashless for mixed routes. I will definitely have these tools for a long time!

Positive aspects of the product (pros): solid build, cascade pick
Cons: weight, trigger

This was the first tool I owned. It worked allright, the cascade pick is great. I found the tool to be a little heavy for my liking though. I also did not like the trigger. It didnt seem to give me any advantage over not having one. I also didnt like the trigger because it made matching aukward (the back of the trigger keeps my hand from sitting comfortably on the shaft of the tool). Probably a good choice if you like a heavier tool.
