This camera is on sale and cheap. Anybody with any experience?

Double AA's better than rechargables in cold? Would think so.

To be more specific, I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive camera. One that can be operated with one gloved hand. It should hold up to the elements of winter, not break into pieces in my pack or jacket pocket and have a bomber lanyard attachment. Simple to use and takes great pictures is also a plus. Appreciate the help, thank you.

If you want cheap, buy a used Canon A520 or A6xx series. Only thing I wish it had is image stabil'n.

I'm not sure what model I have, but I used a Nikon coolpix for several years. I still slip it in my pocket when the SLR is way too large. It did well in the cold when I took it to Denali. I'm not a fan of the lanyard on mine. I wanted to put some accessory chord through it, but the chord was too large. But it hasn't broken yet either. My first one died when a bladder leaked on it. But that was my own stupidity, not the camera's issue. The battery issue is a matter of preference. I hate going through batteries, but the convenience of being able to get new ones in a pinch at the store is nice. I would just use the Lithium batteries if you get a model that uses disposables as they are lighter and last a lot longer.

I use a Cannon PowerShot A560 it is light and small has lots of settings. I thing to keep in mind is, get a camera that you can change the modes with a dial on the top of the camera. This makes things simple and fast. I shoot in manual most of the time and I make one click on the dial and then I'm shooting a video. Good luck

I use a Canon powershot A1000is. The A series is good as you can operate with one gloved hand. Mine was about $150 not bad for 10mp and not so fancy that I am afraid to damage it. I have been using it hard for a year now and its all sctatched up but still works fine. Takes 2 AAs.
