A bit about my location: Frisco is an awesome place sitting at 9,100 feet high in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The town of Frisco offers numerous excellent eateries from high-end resturants, brewpubs and the ‘true locals scene’ Moosejaw bar, all within walking distance from my home. Also there is also a Safeway supermarket and a liquor store only 3 blocks walk away. From the house, ski areas abound both frontside and backcountry. There is a free bus system 3 blocks from the lodging that accesses the entire county (Summit County), including the 3 Major ski areas; Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper and abundant dining choices. Vail, Loveland and Arapaho Basin are 3 more major ski areas within a reasonable 20 min. drive. A super-convenient shuttle service from Denver International Airport (Colorado Mountain Express: brings you direct from the airport to within 3 blocks of my residence. Excellent Nordic skiing at the Frisco Nordic Center is only a half-mile away with miles of ski and snowshoe trails. The White Mountain National Forest boundary is just as close and abounds with backcountry fun...It doesn’t get any better than this!

Vail Colorado Climbing: World renowned Vail Amphitheatre is probably “the” most highly concentrated arena of ice and mixed routes in the US. No where else will you find a higher concentration of classic mixed lines. This is where it all began with Jeff Lowe’s historic ascent of Octopussy in1994. Vail boasts over a solid week of winter climbing. There are over 20 Ice routes ranging from WI2 to WI6 and over 40 mixed routes ranging from M5 to M10. Access is relatively easy with hiking approaches of 15-30 mins and 600’-800’ of vertical gain typically on packed climber trail. Most of the routes are equipped with anchors and protection (bolted mixed lines). Come immerse yourself in a wealth of climbing history that continues to unfold today. A great setting with incredible views of the rugged Gore Mountain Range, very dramatic and photogenic!

Personal Requirements: To make the most of your trip, you need to have prior climbing experience, on ice is preferred. I am a proficient mentor of all levels of climbers. Your experiences will be limited only by your abilities, as Vail offers challenges at all levels of experience. Vail climbing is situated at 9,000 feet which brings in the challenge of altitude acclimatization. Being fit and in good/great physical condition will make your experience more enjoyable as well as being prepared with good gear, base skills, proper equipment and a great attitude.

        What to Bring:
        Mandatory climbing equipment includes:
☺Crampon-compatible boots (front and rear bail grooves) designed for steep ice, warm belay jacket, many warm underlayers, multiple gloves, Softshell or GoreTex outerlayers ☺Ideally you will want to bring all of your own personal climbing gear which includes: pack, harness, helmet, tools, thermos, a few quickdraws and crampons. I have a limited number of equipment items to rent.
        -Lodging equipment:
☺My home has one room with a queen bed and another room with a twin bed, both with bedding. For larger parties, a 3rd queen bed and bedroom is available as well as a 4th queen inflatable bed.
☺Two full bathrooms exist with the option of a third full bathroom available.
        ☺A full kitchen is available.
☺There is a warm gas fireplace, great mountain views, internet usage but no TV, haven’t had one in 9 yrs now!

What you are financially responsible for:
-Transportation to and from your location to my location (Flights into Denver or Eagle airports work best with Denver typically the cheapest, a rental car or a CME shuttle ride).
-Meals aside from the two provided breakfasts

        Grizvitational Dates…Call for date availability:
        January 22-23 Feb 12-13 March 12-13 April 2-3

Clarity….Mentoring vs. Guiding: This is not a formal Guiding Service but a mentoring of friends who wish to learn how to be more safe and efficient on winter rock and ice routes. A release is required with regards to this understanding and the weekend.
