Looking for an alternative to power bars? Logan bread could be the answer.This is a bread developed for the numerous Canadian ascents on Mount Logan. A 2-by-2-inch square was said to be able to sustain a man for a day.1 quart water4 pounds whole wheat flour1 1/2 pounds raw sugar or brown sugar12 ounces non-fat dry milk2 tablespoons baking power2 tablespoons sea salt2 cups honey1 cup blackstrap molasses1 1/4 cups oil1 cup sesame seeds1 1/2 cups wheat germ1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees2. mix all ingredients together very well and turn into a greased roasting pan. Bake one hour. Cut into squares and then allow to air-dry until squares are semi-dry.Yield: Enough to sustain two men 16 days. |
